This morning we rode west on the hilly track. This time the track had been freshly tarred,
covered with fine dark gravel and the track was slightly curved, so we needed
to be careful. We rode under huge low
power lines from the Snowy Scheme, uphill through scrub then tall trees and
across two bridges.
There was one very
long climb and we kept thinking of the steam trains which used to run on theses
lines. If they stopped on one of these
slopes it was difficult to get them started again. We knew the feeling.

This afternoon we drove to Yackandandah, a little town in
the hills with lots of timber cottages and overflowing gardens. The town has wide streets and verandas on the
shops. There are huge oak trees along
the streets which gave lovely thick shade on a very hot day.
